Sealth HS distributes IUDs and such to kids without parental notification

I just read this article about Sealth High School nurse’s office giving IUD’s and such to girls to prevent pregnancy.  I am shocked.

http://grist.org/living/a-seattle-high-school-is-taking-birth-control-access-to-the-next-level/

So basically, as a parent, I can sign a consent form for my daughter to receive care from the nurse’s office.  Now, without reading this article I would be completely ignorant to what is going on, but then my daughter could go get an IUD or a Plan B pill and I would never know about it if my daughter didn’t tell me.

What is wrong with this situation?

First, the school is essentially affirming sex before marriage.  How? With a worldview perspective, “They’re gonna be doing it anyway, so why not make it as safe as possible.”  This is the perspective I have heard guidance counselors give in defense of such practices (not from Sealth, but from other schools with similar practices).  Shouldn’t the teachers preach a little bit stronger message about abstinence?

I heard from a Seattle public school teacher that the teachers are not allowed to give their moral opinion to the students.  But I have also heard from students that some teachers do give their opinion anyway.  And by offering contraceptives, this is tantamount to affirming sex before marriage without saying the very words.

Second, the devices might prevent pregnancy, but not STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).  Students may not think about this.  An IUD doesn’t stop the spread of AIDS and such.  One of the parents of a Sealth student informed me Chlamydia is rampant among students at Sealth.

Third, not telling parents is a major problem.  This also is an affirmation of sex and a deceptive practice, which undermines parents.  So they are not allowed to verbally give their opinion about sex before marriage, but they can give a girl an IUD and hide it from the parents?

Let’s take a moment to think this through from God’s perspective.  First, God says have sex ONLY with your wife or husband in man-woman marriage (Leviticus 18; Matthew 5:27-32; & Hebrews 13:4).  This means no sex before marriage.  This means no sex with someone who is not your husband.  This means no sex with someone who is not your wife.  This means heterosexual marriage is the only union acceptable to God (Genesis 2:22-25 & Matthew 19:4-6).  And God has stated this is how God designed it.

So if we follow God’s ways, what are the benefits? If you have a child, the child gets their mom and dad together.  If you have only ever had sex with each other, you will not have to worry about disease.  If you are a woman, you will not experience the emotional pain when the man moves on to another woman (same with men, but my wife says it affects women differently).  If you are a man, and you have only had sex with your wife, then you will not have as many impotence problems (i.e., past experiences can compete with the experiences with your wife and make you less interested desiring someone more exciting.  When a man doesn’t get the excitement, he may make the blunder of turning to porn, which makes it way worse).  If your wife or husband is the only one, this creates a relationship of intimacy and trust.  AWESOME!

If you don’t follow God’s ways, what are the drawbacks? Disease, pain, impotence, a child born outside of wedlock before the parents are ready, men facing the decision to bail, women facing the decision and sometimes pressure to abort, if you abort the child there is emotional pain and guilt and questioning, if you keep the child there is a lifelong change that affects other people (in fact all of society who need to pay more taxes to fix the problem, provide daycare, money, shelter, food, etc., etc.).

So, what Sealth is doing is “good” if you have the perspective “God doesn’t exist and there is no morality” and if you assume “kids will be responsible and make wise choices.”  But kids don’t.  Not when emotions and peer pressure and alcohol and drugs are involved.  The kid might think, “I am protected because I have an IUD.”  But then they get a disease or the guy breaks up with them.  And then what? Sure a child has not been conceived, but this is so much bigger than fatherless homes.  Sealth’s policy might help prevent more tax dollars from going toward helping unwed mothers raise their kids, but I think there is a better way.

There is a thing called Natural Law.  This means there are things that happen to us that are natural consequences of behavior.  If you speed and get in a wreck, you will face the consequences.  If you hit your thumb with a hammer, you will face the consequences.  If you affirm sex before marriage, more people will have sex and things like pregnancy will happen more frequently or Chlamydia will run rampant.

God’s Law seems to line up with Natural Law.  Read this:

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[g] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

I just felt I needed to share.
